TACKLING DRY SKIN IN THE WINTER MONTHS - our top remedies

I have a love hate relationship with winter. I love the first snowfall, holiday parties, gift giving and snuggling up by the fire with a good read. It’s the bitter cold, whipping winds, and my dry flaky skin that make this season such a downer for me. I can’t control the weather, but I can take steps to keep my skin smooth and nourished during this time of year.

Lock in Moisture

One of the elements of my daily beauty regimen is I add a few drops of body oil into my lotions to help lock in moisture and enhance the softness of my skin. My favorite one is Trader Joe’s Lemongrass Coconut Body Oil. It’s the smell for me - the lemongrass is so yummy!

These moisturizers by Biossance are amazing for the winter months too. Their Squalane and Marine Algae Eye Cream moisturizes and firms without any irritation whatsoever while their Squalane + Omega Repair Cream is extremely effective at keeping skin firm, glowing, and hydrated.

Slough Off Dead Skin

I love cruising and when I go on cruises I usually book myself a pamper session at the spa. sailing the high seas is where I was introduced to Elemis London, a luxurious skincare line. On my last voyage I had a salt scrub after my massage with the delicious smelling lime and ginger salt glow. It’s the perfect combination of grainy and silky, so it’s not too harsh on your skin, but does the job of getting rid of dead skin cells.

Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate

I hate drinking water unless I’m hot and sweaty or if it’s room temperature. In the cold months it’s hard to get into cold beverages, so what I do is I drink a glass of warm water with lemon first thing in the morning. Both are super hydrating for your skin and cost you only the price of a lemon. Another way to hydrate is with a nice cup of tea with honey. These two are my favorite combination.

Eat More Good Fatty Food

If you maintain a healthy diet one of the easiest and cost-effective ways to diminish dry skin is by adding more good fats into your diet during the winter months. My go-to’s include avocado, salmon and nuts.

Stay warm, bundle up and protect that gorgeous skin of yours!
